Five people were displaced following a house fire Monday morning on Aurora’s West Side, according to the Aurora Fire Department.
At around 7:46 a.m., crews responded to reports of a bathroom fire at a single-story home in the 500 block of New Haven Avenue, according to a news release from the Aurora Fire Department. There, they arrived to find smoke coming from the roof and eaves, and the fire was upgraded to a second alarm.
Firefighters advanced hose lines into the home and located the fire in a bathroom utility closet, the news release said. Crews brought the fire under control within 11 minutes, per the fire department, and they conducted overhaul operations to find and extinguish hidden fire, including smoldering materials around the home’s furnace and chimney chase.
All occupants were safely outside the home, and no injuries were reported, the fire department said. The home was deemed uninhabitable because of the fire damage, displacing two adults and three children.
A total of 24 personnel — including four engine companies, two truck companies, two medic units and two chief officers — ultimately responded to the scene, according to the news release.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by fire investigators, the fire department said.
