The team informed John Schriffen that his contract will not be extended as the club’s lead play-by-play announcer, the Sox stated on Monday.
“John has been a true professional throughout his three seasons with the White Sox, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a distinctive style to our broadcasts,” Sox executive vice president, chief revenue and marketing officer Brooks Boyer said in a statement. “As his contract comes to an end, we believe this is the appropriate time to evaluate the direction of our broadcasts and determine what is best for the organization and our fans moving forward.
“We are appreciative of John’s contributions and the connection he built with our fan base. We wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”
Schriffen took over the Sox TV play-by-play duties ahead of the 2024 season, with “South Side, stand up!” among his signature calls. He followed Jason Benetti, who left the team after the 2023 season to work in the Detroit Tigers TV booth.
Schriffen thanked the Sox organization and fans in an Instagram post.
“Thank you to the Chicago White Sox organization for the opportunity,” he wrote. “Calling games for the past three seasons and being part of this team’s turnaround and playoff run made this chapter especially memorable.
“To the fans: Thank you for welcoming me to Chicago, into your homes and tailgates, and for all the support along the way. I’ll always cherish the memories we made together. Grateful for the journey and excited for what’s next. For one last time …Southside Stand Up!!!”
The Sox said a national search for Schriffen’s replacement will begin immediately.
The radio booth will remain the same, with Len Kasper calling games alongside partner Darrin Jackson.
