Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Eloy Jimenez was 11 minutes into his first media session since arriving at White Sox training camp over the weekend when the organization’s top prospect was asked how his English is coming along.

Jimenez, a Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native who had been answering Tuesday’s questions in Spanish through Sox team interpreter Billy Russo, laughed and said in near-perfect English, “My English is not bad but I’m just shy to talk on camera. I’m learning every day about it.”

Pressed to keep answering in English, something the Sox organization would prefer players do as long as they feel comfortable, Jimenez was then asked what is the biggest adjustment he faces living in the United States.

“I think the food,” Jimenez, 21, said.

Is it better or worse in America?

“Eh, I don’t know,” Jimenez said. “Dominican I think is better because that’s where I come from.”

With that, the interview returned to baseball topics and Jimenez answered the remaining questions in Spanish.
