United Airlines will drop 60 percent of its flights to Mexico beginning Tuesday, as fewer travelers head south of the border because of swine flu concerns.
Chicago-based United said late Friday that it plans to reduce its weekly round-trip flights between the U.S. and Mexico to 24 from 61 in May and to 52 from 90 in June.
Chicago’s once-a-day service to Cancun will continue through May. But the carrier is suspending its once-a-week flights from O’Hare to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.
During June, United will suspend its once-daily flight from Chicago to Mexico City.
Earlier Friday, United confirmed that one of its employees, a ramp worker in Denver, had contracted swine flu. The man became ill last weekend, was hospitalized for three days and has since returned home.
