Treasure: Santana Moss
Don’t you hate it when your top receiver piles up the catches and yards with no scores? Thanks for nothin’, right? Moss felt your pain, so he kept things short and sweet in the Redskins’ OT win Sunday: four catches, three TDs. And nearly all of his yardage came from two long scores (55 and 68) that left Jaguars safety Deon Grant’s head spinning. The big stink in ’05 was that Moss disappeared after a strong start–until his 160-yard, three-TD “Santana Claus” game on Christmas Eve, that is. Expect more gifts in the next two weeks against the Giants’ and Titans’ porous pass defenses.
Off course: Kevin Jones
After Jones rushed for 93 yards and two scores, how many of you shook your fists in the general direction of Detroit because you left the underachieving Lion on your bench? Quite a few, I imagine. But the Lions’ offense is starting to get moving, so keep your eye on this poor man’s . . . OK, a really poor man’s Marshall Faulk, a receiving and running threat who can break a big play (Jones had a 35-yard TD Sunday). Though he’s still a bit of a butter-fingers (three fumbles), Jones should help more than hurt you for the rest of the season.
Shipwreck: Matt Hasselbeck
Any conscientious fantasy owner would have thought twice before starting the Seahawks QB on Sunday night. First off, their passing game might suffer with stud runner Shaun Alexander out. Second, the Bears have a pretty OK defense. But did you see that four-headed receiving monster that made the Giants look like peewee players last week? A tough call, but hopefully one you were able to audible out of. He finished with 196 measly yards, no TDs, two picks. But something tells me Hasselbeck won’t lose any hair over it . . . after an open date he’ll bounce back.
