A Gary man is facing an attempted murder case after admitting he “lost his temper” over his missing PlayStations and fired a gun through his neighbor’s apartment door.

One minor — only identified as “juvenile 1” — was shot in the head, charges state. Doctors told police the minor is “unlikely” to survive, according to the affidavit. The gender and age of the juvenile is not listed in court records.

Jason C. Kennebrew, 48, who resided in the 900 block of W. 11th Avenue, was charged Wednesday with attempted murder, aggravated battery, and four counts of criminal recklessness.

Online court records show he is in custody, held on a $13,000 cash bond. A court date isn’t yet set.

Gary Police responded Oct. 26 to an apartment complex.

A witness told police they saw Kennebrew walking near the apartment with a black gun.

“I’m tired of these (expletive) kids,” he said.

He shot twice into the other apartment, the affidavit alleges, before getting into a red Chevrolet Cruze and leaving.

Witnesses told officers that “Jason” was banging on the door, demanding his Playstations back. Juvenile 1 said they didn’t have it and was talking to Kennebrew through the front door when he fired the weapon, charges state.

Kennebrew told police he had just returned from Aldi “lost his temper” when his Playstation 3 and Playstation 5 were gone, suspecting the neighbor kids took it, documents show.

He let them borrow it in the past and was also “bothered” if they could get into the apartment, noting he believed sugar had disappeared in the past.

When juvenile 1 denied having the video game consoles, he “snapped,” put the gun “near the top of the door” and fired a shot or two, he told officers, according to court documents.

He admitted he aimed at the bricks toward the same apartment and fired more shots.

Afterwards, he realized juvenile 1 had nothing to do with it, was apologetic, calling the child a “good kid.”

After a search warrant, police found Kennebrew’s gun in the glove compartment, records state.
