Joseph Sidney Feldman OBITUARY
Joseph Sidney Feldman, age 84, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1975, formerly of Chicago’s Canaryville neighborhood, was called to eternal rest on Saturday, October 24th, 2026. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Ellen “Lal” Feldman (née Robin), whom he married November 9th, 1963, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Chicago, IL.
Joseph is survived by his loving children Joseph (Debbie) Feldman of Naperville, Mary Carole (the late Michael) Prasse of Naperville, Margaret Ann (Bruce) Moore of Davenport, IA, Colleen (Scott) Ernsting of Naperville, Michaeline (Lee) Barnes of Naperville, and Timothy Michael Feldman of Naperville, adored Grandfather of Joey (Danielle) Feldman, Robyn (Joe) Boyle, Tommy (Jessica) Feldman, Nick (Cat) Feldman, Sidney (Jared) Powell, Christen (fiancé Jimmy Tight) Prasse, Michael and Clara Prasse, Danielle (Matt) Vonderhaar, Rachel (Steven) Fiema, Bruce Moore, Michelle (Chris) Notari, Sam, Lexi (fiancé Anthony Hennes) Moore, Billy, Christian, and Sean Moore, Bryan (Amy) Ernsting, Kaity (Jeff) Kohl, Chris (Jackie), John (Virginia), Bobby (Sophia), Matt (Savanna), Jackie, Scottie and the late Mary Elizabeth Ernsting, Nicole (Jake) Richard, Lee (Claire) Barnes, Lauren (Jack) Dunn, Kathryn (Will) Casey, Caroline (Caden) Ernd, Jennifer and Jillian Barnes. Beloved son of the late Sidney and Ann Feldman, dear brother of the late Ellen Ryan, son in law of the late Alfred and Mary Robin, brother-in-law of the late Denise (the late Bernie) Nelligan, the late Jack (Carol) Robin, the late Sally (the late Brad) Johnson, Richard (Diane) Robin, Ray (Sue) Robin, Teree (Jim) Fields, lifelong friend to Kevin Dever, great grandfather of 25, fond uncle, great-uncle and friend to many.
Joe grew up in Chicago’s South Side Canaryville neighborhood, was a member and attended grade school at St. Gabriel parish and was a graduate of Leo High School. After marrying, Joe and Mary Ellen moved to St. Bede’s parish in Chicago where they soon started their family. They settled in Naperville in 1975 where they became devoted members of Saints Peter and Paul and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Churches. Joe and his wife enjoyed wintering with their son Timothy in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida where they were members of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. They also enjoyed spending time at their summer home in Montello, Wisconsin, where they were parishioners of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
At the age of ten, Joe began working in the Chicago Stock Yards and parking cars on vacant lots to help support his family. He started out his young married life working at Central Steel during the day, and the Chicago Sewer Department at night. Joe eventually purchased the parking lots he once worked at in his youth and even became an owner of the International Amphitheater. From there he expanded his parking business to the Chicago Stadium and later to the United Center. In addition to his parking lot business, Joe took over as publisher of the Bridgeport News—a neighborhood newspaper in Chicago—after the death of his father in 1982. He remained in this role until the newspaper closed in 2020. Joe was known as a real estate genius, finding value in properties that nobody else could see, from buildings and parking lots in Chicago to Florida resorts. He ran all of his endeavors working side by side with his children and grandchildren. His greatest motivation for his life’s work was to be able to surround himself with family and friends. Whether at the pool, the ocean, or driving his grandchildren around on the golf cart, his determination and unwavering work ethic helped build a beautiful legacy. Those who knew him best will remember that his greatest accomplishments were not measured in business success, but in the family he raised, the relationships he built, and the countless people he helped along the way.
Joe’s family would like to extend a special thanks to his Sunny Isles Beach friends, especially Millie and Esperanza, who provided him with love and support in the years after his beloved wife passed away, and to his wonderful caregivers Radka and Martina who helped us care for him in his home over the last four months. We will be forever grateful.
