Barbara Jean McKenna, age 80, of Mokena and formerly of Chicago passed away October 11, 2026. Barbara grew up in Chicago, where she attended grade school at St. Barnabas Parish. She graduated from Mother McAuley High School with the Class of 1964 and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1968. Preceded in death by her parents, Pauline (nee Merten) and William McKenna; and siblings William (the late Margie) McKenna, Elizabeth (the late Robert) Simon, Michael (Kathleen) McKenna, and Mary Lou McKenna. Survived by her brother Robert (Kathleen) McKenna; and many nieces and nephews. Barbara devoted her life to serving others as a social worker with the Chicago Department of Aging, retiring as Program Director. Outside of her dedicated career, she found joy in traveling and appreciating art. Barbara also had a compassionate heart for animals, especially cats, and lovingly rescued those who had been abused or neglected. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the World Wildlife Foundation.
