A man who was convicted of murder in a drug deal that turned into a fatal robbery has been sentenced to 76 years in prison, according to Lake County prosecutors.

Johnathan Skroko, 29, had been found guilty in Lake County Court over the summer for first-degree murder in the killing of Robbie Dickerson, 42.

According to authorities and trial testimony, Dickerson came to Antioch in September 2022 to sell a prescription drug to Skroko’s friend Hailey Miller. She testified that Skroko told her that he planned to rob the victim.

A friend of the victim’s testified that he and Dickerson had driven to the Antioch apartment, and the friend said he heard two gunshots minutes after Dickerson went inside. Skroko testified at trial that he acted in self-defense.

Prosecutors urged a lengthy sentence based on Skroko’s criminal history and lack of remorse.

“This offender attempted to justify his actions and blame the victim for this terrible crime,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said. “We believe the court’s sentence appropriately reflects the severity of his conduct and the risk he poses to the community. Our office will continue to support the victim’s loved ones.”

Miller pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was sentenced to 24 years in prison, according to court records.
