A suspect was arrested early Tuesday morning after a gun discharged near a federal building in the Loop neighborhood, Chicago police said.
According to two law enforcement sources, the suspect was on a bicycle about 4:30 a.m. He turned off of Dearborn and tried to go down the tunnel on the west side of Dearborn, north of Jackson, and into the underground garage area where he was stopped by security.
After he was stopped, he fired shots off in the air, west across Federal Plaza, the sources said. Chicago police said the suspect was seen firing a gun in the 200 block of South Dearborn Street near the Kluczynski Federal Building.
No one was struck, but sources said he was chased. Chicago police said the suspect was arrested in the 200 block of South Clark Street after the building sustained damage.
A firearm was recovered at the scene. Charges were pending, police said.
