TEDxGary 2025 is offering an evening of insightful, thought-provoking and engaging ideas on the theme of “Space and Expectation,” at 6 p.m. Saturday in Bergland Auditorium at the Savannah Center at Indiana University Northwest.

McKenya Dilworth Smith said TEDxGary is about raising ideas to catapult Gary into a position to succeed through innovation, creativity and collective hard work.

The program began in 2020 with the theme of Rejuvenating Gary through Innovation.

This year’s speakers include Gary native Paulina Johnson, who held a senior leadership position at ArcelorMittal for 21 years and is now with Stellantis in Detroit; Dr. Akemi Bailey Haynie; Dr. Kenichi Haynie and Masayoshi Haynie from Chicago; attorneys Michael and Shelice Tolbert from Gary; Sandra Carr from Gary; Kristy Carreon from Crown Point; Kristine Szabo from Cannes, France; Crystal Melton from Gary; Robert Ordway, a policy adviser for Gov. Mike Braun; and Dr. Altovise Nicole Ferguson, a performing artist from Gary.

“The evening will be filled with ideas worth sharing, and we are excited to be back on the campus of Indiana University Northwest,” McKenya Dilworth Smith said.

“We have people who have gone to the top of the corporate ladder in business and industry, to medical doctors and attorneys. We have a mother who survived the Hiroshima attack. It’s an interesting mix of speakers that includes creatives and artists.”
