Police officers arrived at the 4900 block of Hull Street around 10:56 a.m., according to Sergeant Brandi Shelton, to search the area. The shelter-in-place advisory was issued out of caution, she said, for officers to safely investigate the incident. Shelton said no one is in custody following the situation.
Jane Hanna, the Communications and Multimedia Engagement Manager for the Skokie Public Library, said the lockdown order was in effect for half an hour. Ewa Lyczewska, Oakton College’s communications manager, said Oakton leadership monitored the situation and remained in communication with local authorities. Students in the Early Childhood Education Center remained safely indoors throughout the incident, she said in an email to Pioneer Press.
Lincoln Middle School is adjacent to the block where police responded, but representatives of Skokie-Morton Grove School District 69 did not respond to a request for comment.
