A man and woman were shot to death early Sunday in the 2000 block of Carolina Street in Gary, according to authorities.
In a press release Sunday, the Lake County coroner’s office identified the man as Van Dyke Cason, 29, of the 1700 block of Fifth Avenue in Gary. The 44-year-old female victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family.
A medicolegal death investigation team was dispatched to the scene Sunday just after 2 a.m., according to the news release.
Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds. The woman’s death was certified at 2:56 a.m., and the man’s was certified at 2:57 a.m.

Gary police could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday.
