The Central Community Unit School District 301 board has approved bids totaling over $14 million for the second phase of Burlington Central High School’s expansion.

Rieke Office Interiors in Elgin was chosen from 11 bidders to provide new library furniture. Two bids from Direct Fitness Solutions in Mundelein were approved for equipment for the cardio room and weight room.

“We will be getting all new equipment, including spin bikes, treadmills and three lifting stations,” said Steve Diversey, athletic director. “It will take our training to another level.”

A progress report on the district’s website this month said, “Phase One of the high school addition is now under roof. Precast walls were set in place earlier in February, and the weather has permitted construction to proceed. The project continues to proceed as planned with interior masonry, ceiling mechanical and electrical work set to begin in March. Drywall, paint, ceiling and flooring work will begin in May. The music/band classroom will also receive updates and an expansion during the summer months.”

Dan Polowy, director of facility operations, said, “Many of the contractors for the Phase One expansion of the high school will be involved in the Phase Two expansion.”
