The Valparaiso library’s parking lot will be expanded in the spring to cover the open fields where businesses and houses were demolished over the summer, the Porter County Public Library Board has decided.
The board hopes to get bids this winter and vote for a contract by April. But new plans will be needed now that the bungalow at 105 N. Michigan Ave. will not be demolished, but instead used to house Porter County Museum Americorps interns.
At the Jan. 18 board meeting, consultant Troyer Group of Mishawaka is scheduled to present designs that will include the locations for entrances to the parking lot. Also expected at the meeting are proposals from three consultants to update library buildings and make them more efficient.
The consultants are Skillman Corporation of Merrillville, MKM architecture + design of Fort Wayne and Mohler Architects of Lafayette.

Board members also will address the lease for 105 N. Michigan to the Porter County Museum Foundation.
On another matter, the Valparaiso branch will not have Sunday hours Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
