Monday, Oct. 31 is the official trick or treat day in Northbrook, and official hours are 4-8 p.m.
Northbrook officials advise residents to turn on porch lights or other exterior lights to welcome trick-or-treaters.
Northbrook police also suggest dressing children in fire-resistant costumes and giving them flashlights or other luminous devices to keep them visible to drivers. They also advise that younger children should be accompanied by an adult or teenage sibling.
On Friday, Northbrook/Glenview Youth Services will stage its first haunted house scarefest, in the facility at 3080 West Lake Ave., Glenview. The organization suggests visitors be adults and children age 8 or older. There will be a party, too, with a bounce house, arts & crafts, face painting, raffles, contests, hot dogs, popcorn and drinks. Admission is $5.
