The Northbrook Park Board appointed a new member Sept. 28 to fill a vacancy. Lisa Chalem will fill the unexpired term of Paul Zima, who retired.

Chalem said she was a staff attorney with the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission prior to becoming a stay-at-home mother of three children. Board president Michael Schyman said Chalem was chosen by the board from a roster of 16 applicants. The choice was narrowed in executive session.

Chalem is expected to stand for election next April, when her term expires. Schyman and veteran Penny Randel are up for re-election then.

Chalem is a nine-year Northbrook resident who holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science and law from the University of Wisconsin, according to a district release. Her law degree is from Chicago’s Loyola University.
