A 39-year-old Northbrook woman was struck and killed Thursday afternoon by an Amtrak train at the Northbrook Metra station in what railroad officials say is an apparent suicide.
“According to a witness, it appears the victim intentionally walked in front of the train,” Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
The woman was a resident of the village’s Northbrook East neighborhood, according to reports.
The woman was struck at about 4 p.m., according to officials. Miller said three trains were canceled, and 25 other trains on the Metra Milwaukee District North Line were delayed. Shermer Road in the vicinity of the station was closed for about four hours.
