Rory Zacher stars in “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding,” returning to Chicago Sept. 22, and he plans to pick up pointers from Kelly Labanco, his Italian fiancee from Northbrook. The interactive stage show’s “ceremony” is at Resurrection Church, 3309 N. Seminary Ave., Chicago, with the dinner, for actors and audience, at the “reception” a block away at Chicago Theater Works, 1113 W. Belmont Ave. Zacher is also starring in “I am Alone,” a selection at next month’s Berlin International Film Festival.
Where did you grow up?
Northbrook, Ill.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to be The Flash. I also wanted to be a baker, so I could be around all the cakes and pastries. And an astronaut, until I found out all the math and science you have to know.
What was your first job?
The first job I recall was as a caddy at some of the local golf courses.
Do you play any musical instruments?
I can play the basics on a drum set, and I can play the base guitar.
Do you have any pets?
Two cats and one dog, a Labrador/coonhound mix named Boodgey. My dad used to make up stories about a guy named Boodgey, and that became his nickname with some of my friends and friends of my sister. So now we’ve got Big Boodgey and Little Boodgey.
What’s your favorite restaurant?
Peter Luger Steak House in Brooklyn, N.Y. Must go back to the late 1800s. The steak, the sauce, the bacon. They have the best bacon ever there.
Do you have any pet peeves?
People who are rude to servers and other restaurant workers. I used to be a waiter and sommelier at Mastro’s Steakhouse.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I’ve never been to Italy. I’d also like to see Tokyo and Australia.

What’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen?
When I was in L.A, I got to witness Jake Arrietta’s no hitter. I may very well never see one of those again.
