Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Getting stuck in an hourlong security line at the airport is the easiest thing to point fingers at when you watch your plane take off without you. But it looks like you can’t blame the Transportation Security Administration for missing your flight anymore, thanks to a new expedited screening program at O’Hare.

The TSA opened a temporary enrollment center at the airport where travelers can apply for PreCheck, a program that allows approved passengers to skip the standard security line.

Instead of doing the usual security striptease, PreCheck passengers won’t be required to remove their shoes, belts, laptops and liquids when passing through security. And forget going through the full body scanner, as PreCheck travelers can pass through a metal detector instead.

Want to apply for PreCheck? The application costs $85, and if you’re approved, you’ll receive a Known Traveler Number valid for five years. At the O’Hare center, located near baggage claim in Terminal 2 and open weekdays until May 13, you’ll be asked to fill out paperwork, provide fingerprints, undergo ID verification and submit to a criminal background check.

Chronically tardy folks (like me), rejoice! There’s a chance to get your keister through security faster and to your flight on time.

A five-minute PreCheck security line > any other line.
