In the wake of former Miami Heat forward Lamar Odom being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel and transported to a Las Vegas hospital, reportedly in a dire state, support was swift from those close to Odom during his time in South Florida.
Odom spent the 2003-04 season with the Heat, after being signed away from the Los Angeles Clippers as a free agent. He then was dealt the following offseason to the Los Angeles Lakers as part of a trade package for Shaquille O’Neal.
Odom’s arrival to South Florida was part of the franchise’s rebirth under guard Dwyane Wade, with the Heat going from 25 victories the season before the addition of Odom to the second round of playoffs in 2004, with a team that featured Odom, Wade, Caron Butler, Eddie Jones and Brian Grant.
Odom averaged 17.1 points and 9.7 rebounds during his lone season with the Heat. During that season, he recorded a triple-double against the Sacramento Kings, with 30 points, 19 rebounds and 11 assists.
He remained close to several members of the organization well after his departure, with several attending his September 2009 wedding to television personality Khloe Kardashian.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Lamar Odom and his family at this time.
