A chocolate peanut-butter imperial stout is one of the unique beers that will be offered by a new microbrewery in Romeoville.

Trustees on Sept. 16 approved a special-use permit for alcohol sales for Metal Monkey Brewing in an industrial district at 515 Anderson Drive.

For years, Romeoville resident and head brewer Dan Camp and several other beer crafters have been brewing their beers in a garage and a basement. They often served the beers at various festivals in the area and found that people liked the taste.

“I think we have a lot of unique beers that people will enjoy,” Camp said. “We’re very excited and happy to be in Romeoville.”

Metal Monkey will be the first microbrewery in Romeoville. The business, which is expected to open in late fall or winter, will include a tasting area for customers and will sell jugs of beer for customers to bring home. Brewers also plan to sell their beers to local restaurants and bars in the area.

Documents indicate that the liquor license will allow brewery officials to pour three pints of beer for each customer on the premises. The brewery expects most patrons to visit after 5 p.m. when other neighboring businesses are closed.

“We are all very excited about this,” said Mayor John Noak, mentioning that some of the restaurants in the community are already asking to serve Metal Monkey beers.

The microbrewery’s website at metalmonkeybrewing.com lists a few of the beers that they plan to serve.

One beer, called Simian Fever, is a hibiscus wheat beer that is ruby red and brewed with white wheat and pilsner malts. The hibiscus flowers and honey malt give the beer a sweet and tart flavor.

Another beer, Tony’s Car, is an imperial beer that is balanced with a malt sweetness from barley and hops. And lastly, the beer B.I.N.G. is an Irish Stout that has a toasty crisp dry finish. B.I.N.G took first place in the Joliet Brewers Guild Stout competition, according to the company’s website.
