An Oak Forest man was robbed July 27 by a man he believed was carrying a gun in the parking lot of a Walgreens in Midlothian, police reported.
The 85-year-old man told police his wife was inside the store at 4800 W. 148th St. while he waited outside in the passenger seat of his car with the windows rolled down.
He was going through his wallet when a man walked past and said, “I need that money,” according to police.
They said the passerby then walked to a nearby car and quickly returned, making reference to the victim’s apartment number and reaching into his own pocket, telling the victim “you don’t want any trouble.”
The victim told police that he believed the robber had a handgun in his pocket, he surrendered $70 in cash and the robber got into a car and fled.
Police said the exchange was captured on video surveillance, and a camera inside Walgreens also shows that the robber apparently stole items from the store minutes before the parking lot robbery.
