Looking for the perfect companion for the Valentine’s Day weekend?

Chicago’s Commission on Animal Care and Control has an idea: its Meet Your Match adoption event Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14-15.

Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will all be available for adoption (their photos are being posted at fcacc.org/meetyourmatch). All featured dogs and cats have been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered. City licenses and Cook County rabies tags are included in the $65 fee.

CACC expects to have at least 20 dogs and 15 cats available on-site at all times during the event. As animals are adopted, more will be made available. If dogs and cats aren’t your thing, the event will also feature rabbits available for adoption from the Animal Care League in Oak Park. Want more? The Chicago Herpetological Society will be on hand with a reptile exhibit and information on exotic animals (but no adoptions).

In addition to the adoption drive, visitors can shop at a Valentine boutique and have their photo taken with their new significant other.

The only adoption event held at the shelter, located at 2741 S. Western Ave., runs from noon to 5 p.m. both days. More adoption details are available at the website.

Meet Your Match is also designed to showcase CACC, which takes in more than 23,000 animals a year. As executive director Sandra Alfred pointed out in a statement, “By increasing public awareness of the opportunity to adopt animals through the CACC and Chicagoland rescues, we hope to reduce the amount of unwanted and homeless animals each year in Chicago.”
