Oak Forest police say a routine traffic stop ended with the arrest of a Calumet City man after police discovered a stolen gun in the car.
A patrol officer on Jan. 20 stopped a car driven by 25-year-old Kendrick Barnes in the 15200 block of Cicero Avenue because it only had one working headlight, police reported.
During the stop, the officer saw Barnes’ passenger, Donte Davis, also 25, trying to conceal an uncased handgun in the glove box and repeatedly ordered Davis out of the car at gunpoint, according to police.
They said Davis initially refused to exit the car, causing the officer to call for back-up, and when Davis did exit, he tried to walk away from police, causing one officer to pull him to the ground. He broke free and began running but officers captured him nearby, police said.
Meanwhile, Barnes refused to sit on the ground and was handcuffed, according to police. They said a
.40-caliber found in the glove box was reported stolen out of downstate Clark County.
At the police station, Davis began to yell and kick the door of his cell and when police tried to enter the cell, Davis swung at one officer and was subdued by a stun gun, police reported.
Davis, 336 Madison Ave., Calumet City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, five counts of resisting arrest and aggravated assault.
Barnes, 7038 Paxton, Chicago, was charged with two counts of resisting arrest and was ticketed for driving with only one headlight and no insurance.
