“The recall is being initiated in connection with a recent FDA inspection due to observations associated with certain quality control procedures that present a risk to sterility assurance,” the company said in a news release.
The recall pertains to drugs known as “compounded sterile preparations.” Compounded drugs are those which have been mixed, reconstituted or otherwise altered, according to federal law governing the practice.
Martin Avenue Pharmacy, Inc. 1247 Rickert Drive, has dispensed such medications to individual patients as well as to doctors’ offices in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Alabama and Texas, according to the release.
The pharmacy is notifying customers of the recall and asking that they stop using the products in question. There have not been any reports of injury or illness, but pharmacy officials said in the release they are performing the recall “in an abundance of caution, and in the interest of patient safety.”
A list of recalled products can be found at www.fda.gov/downloads/Safety/Recalls/UCM412436.pdf.
Customers with questions about the recall can contact the pharmacy at 630-355-6400 or [email protected].
Representatives of the pharmacy and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration could not immediately be reached for comment.
