Naperville councilmen have rejected plans for an assisted living facility on the city’s south side.

Formation Shelbourne Senior Living Services LLC had proposed building the 75,000-square-foot Solana of Naperville in the Naperville Crossings development at Route 59 and 95th Street.

Len Monson, an attorney for the petitioner, told councilmen the latest trend in assisted living facilities is to build them near shops, restaurants and entertainment options like those available at Naperville Crossings. He also pointed out the difficulty of finding other developers for the site.

Councilmen denied the request with an 8-1 vote saying while such a facility is needed on the south side, Naperville Crossings is not the right location and they still believe a retail use can be found for the site.
