The Alma Dance Company, a new classical troupe based in Chicago, will make its debut with the full-length “Frankenstein Ballet,” an original work, Nov. 9 and 10 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie.
Veteran dancers Suzanne Lek and Guillermo Leyva, who head the new company, will co-choreograph “Frankenstein,” a new take on Mary Shelley’s tale, to music by Cuban composer Hector Silveira.
British-born Lek danced with the London Festival Ballet, among others, while Cuba native Leyva is a veteran of the Joffrey Ballet. They plan to employ Latin, jazz, gospel and blues as well as classical music to score the troupe’s work.
