“V FOR VENDETTA” **
6:45 p.m., MAX
The Wachowski brothers, who made hay with “The Matrix,” adapted the 1980s British graphic novel imagining a murderously totalitarian near future plagued by nuclear fallout and rampant police-state censorship. But there’s a revolutionary afoot known only as V (Hugo Weaving), a man of sophisticated, elegantly vengeful instincts, wearing a Guy Fawkes mask and taking back England from its oppressors. Natalie Portman plays his protege.

“WHITE CHICKS” * 1/2
7 p.m. FX
In this goofy movie, director-writer Keenen Ivory Wayans asks us to believe that actor-writers Marlon and Shawn Wayans, as two accident-prone African-American FBI agents, could disguise themselves as famous high society blond sisters at a posh Hamptons bash and fool everybody, including the sisters’ best buddies. Amazingly they succeed. The movie doesn’t.
MPAA rating: PG-13
