The feature directorial debut of “Million Dollar Baby” screenwriter Paul Haggis is an intricate, explosive ensemble crime drama set in a modern L.A. pressure cooker of racial and class hatreds. Well-written and acted by a superb cast (Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, Terrence Howard, Thandie Newton), it’s a moving street mural seen through grit-covered glasses.
