player ready...Think about it: We really don’t know that much about Stedman Graham.
“I don’t have a show that reaches 20 million people a day,” Graham told Armour & Co. when we chatted with him a few days ago.
Of course, he was referring to his longtime better-known better half–Oprah Winfrey.
The fact is Graham had his own thing going on long before he hooked up with Winfrey. Not only is he chairman and CEO of S. Graham & Associates, a management and marketing consulting company, he has written 10 books (two of them New York Times best sellers). His latest, “Diversity: Leaders Not Labels,” is currently in bookstores.
But you rarely hear about all that when Winfrey is making headlines. Graham is absolutely fine with that.
“I’m not trying to measure up,” he told us. “I’m saying, `Oprah, you are wonderful. I love and support what you do, and it’s wonderful that you are doing what you do. It’s you.’ That has nothing to do with who I am as a person. I can separate the two.”
Still, we had to know: Did Graham ever see Dave Chappelle’s hilarious sketch about stealing Winfrey away from him?
“I don’t really watch him,” Graham said. “I don’t spend a lot of time focusing on the illusionary type of thing. What I focus on is what I do.”
