Thodos Dance Chicago will go forward with plans to present the Chicago premiere of Danial Shapiro and Joanie Smith’s “Dance With Two Army Blankets” despite Shapiro’s death last week from prostate cancer.
The 48-year-old Shapiro was scheduled to visit Chicago this week to rehearse the work, originally created in collaboration with his wife. Together, they founded and ran the troupe Shapiro & Smith Dance. He died Oct. 3.
The 1992 work, set to music by Toby Twinings, will be staged here by Kelly Drummond Cawthon, Shapiro’s assistant, and dancer Eddie Oroyan and featured on the Thodos troupe’s engagement Oct. 28 and 29 at the Athenaeum Theatre.
