The way John Scheinfeld sees it, not much has changed since John Lennon was persecuted by the U.S. government, which is the subject of his documentary “The U.S. vs. John Lennon.”

Scheinfeld, who attended Northwestern, told Armour & Co. it’s still going on, to a degree. “Maybe not by the government,” said Scheinfeld, whose documentary opened in selected theaters this weekend. “But there is public disapproval of anybody that speaks out–the Dixie Chicks, Eddie Vedder, Green Day. You’re just painting a bull’s eye on your forehead if you say what you think. It’s natural for artists to speak out, but the world comes down on them pretty hard.”
