Those making a difference

Sunday School children at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church collected enough coins to send seven children, all victims of last year’s hurricanes, to Camp Noah this summer. Camp Noah is a project sponsored by the Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota that provides children affected by natural disasters a fun place to heal from traumas associated with the loss of homes, neighborhoods, family members and pets. More than $1,400 was donated from coins the children collected in banks shaped like Noah’s Ark and matching funds from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The Lombard Moose Lodge 2350 and Women of the Moose 1967 recently donated $500 to the Lombard Police Department to be used to supplement community-based programs such as the Citizens Police Academy.

The United Way of the DuPage Area recently announced it will provide $2.68 million for community investment in health and human service programs throughout the county starting July 1. The amount marks a 7 percent increase over last year’s investment.
