Among the things Notre Dame worked on during its week off was cutting down on line-of-scrimmage penalties. How?
“You intentionally change snap counts to force discipline on both sides of the ball,” coach Charlie Weis said. “Then people who have infractions are penalized appropriately. In practice we continued to have some line-of-scrimmage penalties.” . . .
Having already guided the Irish to a 5-2 record and a No. 8 national ranking, Weis is rediscovering a lot of old friends.
“My long-lost friends that want tickets to the games? Yeah. I’ve gotten all sorts of calls,” Weis said. “`By the way, can I get four tickets to the Tennessee game?'” . . .
Irish quarterback Brady Quinn has an official namesake. Lisa Mushett, a former assistant sports information director who served as Notre Dame’s football contact from 2000-03, and her husband, Andrew, welcomed a baby girl at 2:33 p.m. Tuesday. The baby’s name: Reagan Quinn Mushett. Father and daughter have a date to sit in front of the television and watch the Irish play Tennessee on Saturday.
