Saturday’s 49-23 victory over BYU included many Notre Dame landmarks. For instance, Jeff Samardzija, who finished with 10 catches, and Maurice Stovall, who had 14, became the first two receivers in school history to reach double digits in the same game.

Tom Zbikowski’s 83-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter was the longest by an Irish player since Bobbie Howard had an 89-yard return against LSU in 1998.

Notre Dame’s 49 points were the most at home in eight years. The last time an Irish team exceeded 49 points at Notre Dame Stadium was Oct. 25, 1997, when it beat Boston College 52-20. . . .

The victory was coach Charlie Weis’ first at home. It also was the first time the Irish could celebrate a win at home in more than a year. The last victory at Notre Dame Stadium had come Oct. 9, 2004, when the Irish beat Stanford 23-15. . . .

Notre Dame heads into its second week off in a month. The Irish will return to the field Nov. 5 when they play host to Tennessee, which fell 6-3 to Alabama. . . .

Notre Dame remained No. 9 in the Associated Press poll.
