Illinois coach Ron Zook got some good news Sunday on the knee injury offensive tackle JJ Simmons suffered in Saturday’s loss at Iowa. “There was no tear,” Zook said. “He’s probably questionable for this week, but there’s a chance he could play.”
Free safety Morris Virgil missed the Iowa game after straining his shoulder the previous weekend against Michigan State. “I would expect Morris will be able to come back this week,” Zook said. “He probably could have gone [against Iowa]. I felt rather than taking a chance on going backward with him, we were better off making sure he’s all right.”
Playing in his second straight game after missing the first three because of a hip injury, safety Justin Harrison was the Illini’s leading tackler against Iowa with eight. Iowa linebackers Abdul Hodge, with 18 tackles, and Chad Greenway, with 15, demonstrated why they were first-team all-conference selections last year.
