Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The first “London Is The Place For Me” compilation shed new light on an overlooked chapter in British popular music. While that disc featured the calypso of Trinidadian immigrants of the 1950s, its sequel is even more fascinating. This collection includes musicians from England’s former African colonies who joined the Caribbean arrivals during the ’50s and ’60s. Such musicians as trumpeter E.T. Mensah and the West African Swing Stars introduced upbeat highlife rhythms to the United Kingdom. Other performers were more concerned with maintaining their own traditions.
