The Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship has ordered an investigation of whether the Department of Energy is complying with small-business contracting goals.
In fiscal year 2003, the Department of Energy awarded 4 percent of its $19 billion in prime contracts to small firms, well short of the government’s 23 percent goal and ranking last among the 15 U.S. agencies required to comply with the goal.
