Navy will be playing its first game in 2 1/2 weeks Saturday when it faces the Irish. With two Saturdays off in a row, Navy coach Paul Johnson got to watch games from a fan’s perspective.

“It has been crazy,” Johnson said. “I guess I got to see how other people live on Saturdays. I got to watch college football for two weeks in a row. I kind of like setting on the couch all day with a clicker and not caring who wins or loses. It’s a lot more fun that way.”

And easier. Playing armchair quarterback, Johnson said, is less taxing than being the coach.

“Hey, you can make all the right calls from your couch,” he said.

Is Johnson worried about losing the momentum the Midshipmen had built while starting the season 5-0?

“It can happen, but you also get healthy,” he said. “I have a pretty good idea that Notre Dame is going to take a little edge off us. I’m not worried as much about the off week as I am about who we’re playing.”
