Democrats’ index hits record low

The Democratic side of the House Small Business Committee said the economic climate for small firms reached a new low in the second quarter.

Created by the Democratic group last year, the Small Business Index includes 17 indicators of economic conditions, such as the cost of doing business, credit conditions and unemployment levels.

Rising health-care costs and energy prices this year drove the index down, according to a news release from the group.
