The Village Board has approved a plan for an age-restricted senior apartment complex on the west side of Barrington Road just north of Governors Park assisted living center.
Alden Realty Services of Chicago plans to build 50 one and two-bedroom apartments for adults 62 and older, including 42 apartments discounted for low-income seniors. Monthly rents will range from $495 to $895.
Village officials are working to meet the requirements of the state’s Affordable Housing Planning Appeal Act, which takes effect July 1. The law is intended to spur communities where affordable housing makes up less than 10 percent of the housing stock.
“The law is targeted toward the northwest suburbs because there’s a perception or reality that housing is expensive in this area,” said Jeff O’Brien, village planner.
