Success continues on the mat

The wrestling season never really ends for 152-pound Highland Park senior Mike Poeta. Poeta, who won his second Class AA state championship last month, traveled to Pittsburgh for last week’s 30th Dapper Dan Classic, which matches a team of U.S. all-stars against a team of Pennsylvania all-stars. Poeta wrestled state champion Steve Anceravage of Bloomsburg and was a 10-5 winner. Up next for Poeta, who is the No. 1 ranked 152-pounder in the country, is next month’s National High School Championships in Cleveland. Poeta finished his high school career with a 170-5 record. He finished third as a freshman at 103 pounds, third as a sophomore at 119 pounds and won his first state title at 140 pounds.
