In a lather over lettuce

Lettuce extract is part of the marvelously floral fragrance in this bar of lettuce soap from Sabonette in Portugal. We weren’t aware that lettuce actually had a fragrance (and wouldn’t advise rubbing romaine leaves over your body instead) but were won over by the bar’s intoxicatingly clean, strong scent. A 12.3-ounce bar costs $14; a box of three 5.3-ounce bars is $21.50 at Peachtree Place, Northfield Village Square, 303 Happ Rd., Northfield, 847-441-7585; or online at www.peachtree-placeonline.com.
