The Naperville Plan Commission Wednesday reviewed a proposal to demolish Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Naperville to make way for a new 37,500-square-foot chapel with a gymnasium, a day-care center and a separate garage.

The church, at 919 S. Washington St., also would include a youth center, a welcoming area, an outdoor center and courtyard, a prayer garden, a small outdoor amphitheater, and a banquet facility that could serve 490 people.

Neighbors of the church are concerned about possible increased noise and light from the church and asked that the church landscape the perimeter of the church’s property that borders residences. Neighbors also were concerned about the traffic the banquet facilities would generate and the 133 parking spaces the church is requesting.

Plan commissioners urged church officials meet with residents before the commission discusses the proposal again on Feb. 4.
