Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn struggled mightily against the Florida State defense Saturday, completing just 20-of-52 passes and throwing three interceptions. His troubles, though, should hardly be seen as an indictment of the faith placed in Quinn by the Notre Dame coaching staff, said Florida State coach Bobby Bowden. “They have a freshman quarterback that’s playing in his first year, and that is very difficult,” Bowden said. “We went through that two years ago, but ours was a redshirt freshman. With that are going to come hot and cold days.” . . .

Right guard Dan Stevenson and center Bob Morton left the Saturday’s game due to injury. Neither returned. Their status was not immediately clear, offensive coordinator Bill Diedrick said.
