Naperville Park District commissioners last week put the brakes on a staff recommendation to form a foundation that would increase federal grant money and donations to the district.

Instead, commissioners agreed to further discuss the idea during a workshop session in November.

Staff had gone as far to go out to bid for a consulting firm to establish a foundation. It recommended hiring Development Management Services of Naperville for work that was estimated at $18,000, the highest of the three bids received.

But commissioners wanted more information about the services the vendors provide as well as information about a district-formed foundation versus a citizen-formed foundation.

Park District Executive Director Kenneth Brissa said the staff does not have the resources to help set up a foundation.

“I think we jumped a little faster than I thought we were going to go,” said Commissioner Scott McKibbin.

In other business, the Park Board unanimously voted to dissolve the Citizens Advisory Committee and reassemble the group on an as-needed basis.
