The Village Board has adopted a 2003-04 budget of $39.7 million, an increase of $2.2 million from the previous year.
Most of the increase, approved last week, will be in the police and fire pension funds, said Village Manager Craig Anderson. The police fund will rise to $812,000 from $412,000 and the fire fund to $263,000 from $52,000. About $241,000 to hire three police officers, three firefighters and a civil engineer also factors into the increase.
The village expects to take in about $41.5 million in revenue, up about 2.7 percent from last year’s $40 million.
After adopting the budget Tuesday, the board approved increasing the village’s sales tax to 1.25 percent from 1 percent. The increase, which will take effect Jan. 1, is expected to bring in an additional $700,000 annually.
The village also will begin charging residents $200 for basic life support and $300 for advanced life support ambulance services. The fees charged to non-residents will increase to $400 from $250 for basic life support and to $600 from $300 for advanced life support. The new fees are expected to bring in about $300,000 annually.
