Cover guy: Bruce Sherman, chef of North Pond restaurant in Lincoln Park, is one of the 10 chefs named to Food & Wine Magazine’s Best New Chefs of 2003.

Editor-in-chief Dana Cowin said more than 50 chefs were in the running. Sherman was described by a judge, she said, as “a chef with a vision, and the vision is marked by an affection for quality ingredients and for simplicity, without making it boring.”

The announcement was made Tuesday in New York. The 10 chefs will be profiled in the July issue, and will be at the Food & Wine Aspen Classic, June 13-15. Another Midwesterner joining Sherman in the lineup is Stuart Brioza of Tapawingo in Ellsworth, Mich.
