West Dundee residents can expect their property-tax bills to rise.

Trustees have approved a 22.1 percent increase over last year’s property-tax levy to collect $935,000, up from last year’s $765,974.

The village tax rate will increase by 15 percent, to 58 cents per $100 of equalized assessed valuation for 2002, up from last year’s rate of 50 cents, said Finance Director Dave Danielson.

The owner of a house valued at $200,000 would pay about $386 per year in property taxes to the village, up from $335.

The levy funds garbage and recycling services, business insurance, and police and fire pension funds, among other things.

The increase will help pay for a revenue shortfall from the last year, Danielson said.

“Our sales tax is flat. We are down about 4 percent from a year ago,” he said.

In other matters, Scott Hartman, assistant to the village manager, announced his resignation.

Hartman, 31, began working for the village in 1994. He has accepted the position of city administrator for Marengo.
